My name is Jun Pineda. I am currently a deacon of the Archdiocese of Westminster to be ordained, God willing, a priest on 28 July 2018.

I was born in the Philippines but I grew up in London. I gained my first degree in business and management studies at the University of Salford and earned a masters degree in digital media in London Metropolitan University. My employment history includes working as a personnel assistant for the London Borough of Newham, a communications officer for Caritas Manila and the Royal College of Nursing, and a web editor for Brunel University.

I thought that my MA in digital media would be my final dabble in education but God had other ideas. I was accepted for priestly training in 2011 when my bishop sent me to Rome for seven years of formation at the Venerable English College.

I studied Philosophy at the Pontifical University of St Thomas Aquinas (aka the Angelicum) and Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University. In 2016, I went back to the Angelicum to study for my Licentiate in Spiritual Theology which I hope to complete in June this year.

Read why I am blogging again.

Isn’t Jun an Unusual Name for a Guy?

A bit, in the Western world anyway. My real name is Antonio and I was named after my dad which makes me a “Junior”. In the Philippines, Jun is short for Junior and not JR as it is in the US or even England. Many families have a Jun in the Philippines (it’s practically a custom) and so I am just one of the millions of Jun Pinedas. That’s why I’m so thrilled to own the domain junpineda.com.

About You BET!

This website is not going to be about my spiritual journey or the Catholic Church (as I have other forums for that side of my life). Rather, this site is about the geeky things that I enjoy, including these three:

  • Books: I love books. There’s something about them.: the colourful covers, the delicious smell as you flick the pages, the characters that come alive as you read the chapters …
  • Entertainment: There’s currently an explosion of superheroes on TV … and I love it! My TV week comprises Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow and Black Lightning.
  • Technology: Social media, desktop publishing, video editing, web design … these are just a few of the things that get my creative juices flowing. I love the power that technology gives me to express myself.

Why “You BET!”?

“You bet!” is an idiomatic term that expresses positivity, enthusiasm and certainty. These are the elements that I like to include in my posts. The word “BET” is also the acronym for the three main topics that this website will focus on: books, entertainment and technology.

This website does not take itself seriously and my aim is not to write beautiful posts that people will admire. Rather, this website is my way of sharing my passion and enthusiasm. I will rely on you to tell me when I am not doing that.
