Happy to be with Namecheap

I have been with Namecheap for just 24 hours and already I feel that I have made the right move. The experience that I am getting is so much more pleasant than with Dragify/Ahead Hosting and Fasthosts (I will write about Fasthosts in a future post).

To recap, I signed up with Namecheap hosting yesterday after my website on Dragify collapsed. It became apparent later that the collapse was not Dragify’s fault but even so they did next to nothing to help me get the site up and running again. Here’s a sample of their “assistance”:

Review your WordPress installation, because this error is caused by a bad configuration of WordPress.

You can read the full story in yesterday’s post.

And so I signed up to Namecheap’s Stellar Plus hosting package. For £3.50 a month, this is what I am getting:

  • Unmetered SSD-Accelerated Disk Space
  • Unmetered bandwidth
  • Unlimited websites
  • 100% uptime
  • Unlimited hosted domains and subdomains
  • Twice a week backups
  • Unlimited FTP users
  • Unlimited email accounts, forwarders and webmail
  • Unlimited MySQL databases
  • PHP MyAdmin and PHP PgAdmin

The list goes on.

Teething Problems

There were teething problems when I migrated my website over to Namecheap yesterday. Both times that I contacted tech support via their live chat feature, my issues were dealt with speedily. I did not have to raise a ticket and wait for a response, like I had to do with Dragify. Live support from a knowledgeable person is available 24/7. A helping hand is just a click away.

When I was with Dragify, with the amount of problems I had with them, it felt that my site could go down any time. I never felt secure, and the tought of my site being down was horrifying because I also knew that the quality of tech support left a lot to be desired. It’s a bit like your car breaking down in the middle of nowhere without a membership to the AA or RAC.

Quality Support

Let me finish with an extract from an email I received this morning from Richard Kirkendall, CEO of Namecheap:

I noticed that you recently placed your first order with us and I wanted to check in with you to ensure that you have everything that you need. I hope that your experience with Namecheap so far has been a pleasant one.

Here at Namecheap customer experience is at the heart of everything we do. It’s why we come to work each day. All replies to this email inbox are monitored by myself, so if you’d like to get in touch directly and provide any feedback which could help us help you, please hit reply and I’ll ensure that we get onto that right away. No issue is too small. If it matters to you, it matters to us, so please do get in touch if you need to.

I’m not naive enough to think that Namecheap is perfect (no hosting provider is) but they are at least a million times better than Dragify.
