Despite generally negative reviews in the US, Superman prequel series Krytpon is flying into UK TV screens on E4.
Krypton premiered on Syfy in the US on 21 March 2018. Set on Superman’s home planet 200 years before he was born, the series stars British actor Blake Ritson alongside Ray Donovan’s Paula Malcomson as well as Georgina Campbell, Elliot Cowan, Ann Ogbomo, Rasmus Hardiker, Wallis Day, Aaron Pierre and Ian McElhinney.
The majority of the critics have not been kind. The Guardian newspaper, for example, had this to say:
“If it was not a lead-up to the modern Superman mythos, the new series Krypton would have no compelling reason to exist. If it could not be sold as an extension of the DC brand, it would just be another faceless sci-fi drama mimicking Game of Thrones’ power struggles among warring factions.”
Entertainment website Collider, however, gave the show a thumbs up. It said:
“Does Krypton fly? Absolutely. Syfy, Warner Bros, and DC took a big swing with this project, but it seems like the time and money were good investments. This Superman fan is happy with how it’s starting, at the very least, and there’s a lot of potential here.”
E4 hasn’t confirmed when exactly it will start airing the series. Not that it matters to me because I am in no hurry to watch it. I have enough to watch at the moment and it will probably in the summer that I will have time to watch it.
